Nearly every car listed here already has two pedals. In this city the rare booking is a manual.
One pass down a Yerevan search, in the order the filters come off.
Open the list
The unfiltered feed runs to roughly three hundred and fifty cars for Yerevan. Nothing has been narrowed yet, and every listing on it reports that it can be taken without a credit card.
Tick automatic
Almost nothing leaves the screen. In a hundred car sample, ninety nine had two pedals. The filter you expected to be the decisive one barely moves the count.
Tick manual instead
Now the list falls away. That same hundred contained exactly one manual. This, not the automatic box, is the filter that costs you real choice in this city.
Put the gearbox away
Since it separates almost nothing, stop sorting on it. What actually differs between these cars is the hold on your card, whether the booking can be undone, and whether the car comes to you.
Book on what is left
Deposit, cancellation, delivery, size. Four honest variables inside a price band narrow enough that none of them will cost you much either way.
These come from a hundred car sample and the feed turns over during the day, so treat every line as a proportion.
Height is the only genuine scarcity on this list. If you need it, that is the booking to make early.
Nothing in this city is priced as a luxury tier, which is why the spread stays this tight.
Korean and Japanese saloons, with very little else behind them, and all of them automatic.
The same fleet reads very differently depending on which of these you are.
Then you have the difficult job on this site, and it is better to know that before you start clicking. One car in a hundred sampled had a clutch. There is no manual tier, no manual discount, and no supplier in Yerevan who specialises in them.
Widening the search does not rescue you either, because the rest of the market looks the same. What helps is time: begin as far ahead of your dates as the calendar allows, and let the car choose the pickup point rather than the other way round.
Treat the model as negotiable too. A manual in a body shape you were not planning on is still a manual, and on this list that is the trade you will be offered if you are offered one at all.
This is the easy case and it covers most visitors. Ticking automatic leaves you holding practically the entire Yerevan list, so the gearbox never becomes a constraint on price, on pickup or on your dates.
Spend the attention you just saved on the terms instead. Roughly three in five listings can be cancelled without a fee, and about one in four arrives at an address you give rather than waiting at a desk for you.
After that it is a saloon, and the saloons here are much of a muchness. Pick the one whose deposit and collection suit your week, then stop reading and book it.
Two or three people taking turns is where a uniform automatic fleet quietly earns something. Nobody has to relearn a clutch on an unfamiliar road, and nobody ends up as the only member of the group who can legally and comfortably drive.
That counts most on the long days out of Yerevan, where the driving is the point rather than a transfer. Swapping over at a viewpoint takes about as long as walking round the car.
Settle one thing before you book: who is named on the rental, and how the supplier handles an extra driver. That is a supplier term rather than a gearbox one, and it is printed on the booking you confirm.
On most hire sites the transmission filter is the first real fork in the road. In Yerevan it is barely a fork at all. Once you accept that the car will be automatic, the booking collapses into four much smaller questions, and those four are the useful part of this page.
The card comes first. Every listing in this city is marked as rentable without a credit card, which is unusual enough to be worth saying plainly rather than burying in the terms. Close to nine in ten of the sample asks for a token deposit worth no more than about EUR 7, and a little over one car in ten holds nothing at all.
Cancellation is next. Three in five of the cars sampled can be dropped without a fee, which is the single flag worth filtering on if your days depend on mountain weather or on a flight you have not boarded yet. It also lets you book a car now and tighten the dates later.
Then delivery. Around one car in four is offered with delivery included, which turns collection into something that fits your schedule instead of the reverse. On a trip where the car is only needed for the days you leave Yerevan, that is worth more than any difference between two saloons.
Age and size close it out. Roughly a quarter of the sample carried a new flag, and the saloons filling the rest of the list are the right tool for the paved roads that matter beyond the capital. Yerevan Car Hire shows live supplier inventory, so what you are reading here is what is bookable today rather than a brochure.
Some people are not being fussy about this. You may rely on engine braking down long descents, you may simply drive better with a clutch under your left foot, or you may be booking for someone who has never driven anything else. Those are fair reasons and none of the above pretends otherwise.
The honest position is that this city will make you work for it. A single manual in a hundred listings is not a shortage you can book around on short notice, and there is no second marketplace here where the ratio looks different.
So give yourself three levers. Start early, well before your dates harden. Leave the pickup point open rather than insisting on one address. And put the model last, because the gearbox is what you came for and the badge on the boot is not.
Set a cutoff as well. If nothing has surfaced by the time flights and rooms need booking around the car, take the automatic and move on. The price band here is narrow enough that switching costs you almost nothing.
Read off the first page of the live Yerevan feed. The proportion shifts a little through the day. The conclusion does not.
Deposit, cancellation and delivery are the choices actually worth making in Yerevan.
